Everyone wants the war in Ukraine to end, everyone bar Putin it seems.
Today, (Saturday, March 15) Prime Minister Keir Starmer took the next step for the Coalition of the Willing with a discussion between partners from across Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
The Coalition of the Willing is being driven by Starmer but led by the UK and France. This initiative could see troops from various European or NATO countries being deployed to Ukraine to deter Putin from taking aggressive action in the future.
Increased sanctions will endeavour to squeeze Russia into agreeance, but the coalition will also ensure the steady flow of military aid to Ukraine. The aim will be to force Putin to the negotiating table.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has committed to a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. This followed dreadful scenes in the Oval Office, and the subsequent decision by President Trump to halt all military aid and to turn off intelligence to Ukraine, effectively making the country even more vulnerable.
President Trump has agreed to restart aid and intelligence sharing, and it seems that Starmer is still hopeful of a US backstop but at this time, no one knows whether Trump has agreed to this or not. Other world leaders seem less convinced that the US will provide the security needed.
The Coalition of the Willing will meet again next week to discuss operational tactics. As yet, no one truly knows if boots on the ground will happen or what it might mean if Russia took an aggressive stance against these soldiers - peacekeeping or not.
For now….World War III still hangs in the balance.
